On November 28 police responded to reports that a boy had suffered a small cut to his back inflicted by someone with a knife at the centre near Dudley.

A 15-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has subsequently been charged with assault and possession of a bladed article in a public place and is due to appear at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court on Wednesday (December 17) in relation to the allegations.

Two boys, aged 16 and 18, and a 19-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of affray and wounding at the time. They have been bailed pending further inquiries.

Merry Hill's centre manager Jonathan Poole said: "Merry Hill has been supporting West Midlands Police in its investigation of the incident that took place last month.

“We are working together to ensure that the centre continues to be a safe and welcoming environment for all visitors, with enhanced police presence on site throughout the busy festive period.”

West Midlands Police said the investigation was continuing and that any witnesses who had not yet spoken to officers should come forward by calling 101 and quoting 20/458619/25, or by phoning Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
