Two men in custody following chase through Wolverhampton City Centre where combat knives recovered and officers racially abused and assaulted

Two men have been arrested following a foot chase in Wolverhampton City Centre, where two officers were racially abused and assaulted.

West Midlands Police's Project Guardian Task Force (GTF) has arrested two men after they attempted to evade officers through Wolverhampton City centre yesterday afternoon.

Once the two men were caught by officers, searches revealed two combat knives.

During the arrest, officers were racially abused and attacked

However, the force said that one male then went on to racially abuse one of the officers, before also assaulting one of them.

Both men were placed into custody.

A force spokesperson said: "Wednesfield and Tipton GTF teams chased two males through Wolverhampton City centre yesterday and detained them both. 

"Two combat knives were recovered. 

"One male decided to racially abuse our officers and then assaulted one of them. Both males were booked into custody."

West Midlands Police have been approached for more information.
