Bescot Railway Station murderer Deng Majek sentencing pushed back to next year after failure to discover whether he is a teenager or adult
The sentencing of Bescot Railway Station murderer Deng Chol Majek has been delayed until next year after medical and legal professionals failed to determine how old he is.
Following his arrest shortly he murdered hotel worker Rhiannon Whyte on October 20, last year Majek spent months pretending be not mentally fit to stand trial. Now a convicted murderer there continues to be a dispute over the age of the Sudanese asylum seeker.
Miss Whyte's family hoped to see justice finally done during Majek's sentencing on Monday, December 15 but now they will have to wait six more weeks until the New Year.
Hoping for a more lenient sentence Majek maintains he is 19-year-old despite paperwork processed by Italian authorities on arrival from from Sudan states he was born in 1998.
Yesterday (Thursday) Justice Soole told a hearing at Wolverhampton Crown Court time had ran out to get a definitive answer in time and Majek would now learn his fate on January 30.
He said: "We have the position whereby if there is no radiologist available, the neurologist cannot produce any sort of report.
