The Mitre dates back to the 1930s and has long been an iconic venue in the town centre, hosting live music from bands that went onto national fame including The Wonderstuff and Ned's Atomic Dustbin.

But it closed at the start of the year when landlord Mike Cartwright retired, and has been empty since.

Now, owners Star Pubs have revealed ambitious plans for the Grade II listed pub which include refurbishment of the pub but in keeping with the designs and features of the original building.

On their website they are marketing the pub, saying it is set to undergo a "major refurbishment" and is available on a tenancy basis.

It is hoped after an extensive refurbishment, The Mitre will  boast a main trading area with a bar, with separate dining room, space for 100 internal covers and 16 external covers, a catering kitchen, function room, beer garden and car park with five spaces.

Star Pubs said: “Most other pubs locally are wet-led, but The Mitre will stand out by offering great cooked food alongside a top range of beer and cider brands.

“With its newly renovated interior, the pub will appeal to all ages and mixed groups, and the function room provides an additional opportunity for private hire.”

“A full refurbishment will transform The Mitre into a standout community pub right in the heart of Stourbridge town centre.

“Inside, the pub will be completely redecorated with new furniture, lighting, reupholstered fixed seating and a refreshed kitchen. The toilets will also be fully overhauled.

“Outside, the exterior will benefit from new signage, lighting and refreshed decoration, with added furniture and a welcoming beer garden to increase year-round appeal.”

The company has published mood pictures of how they hope the pub will look when the work is completed.

The budget for the refurb is not included in the plans, but the estimated minimum ingoing costs have been listed as £30,600, with an annual rent of £30,000 and an estimated annual turnover of £479, 189.
