Drivers warned to 'expect delays' as three lanes of the M5 closed after van overturns on motorway leaving one with 'potentially serious injuries'

On man has been injured and three lanes of the M5 northbound have closed near Worcester after a van overturned on the motorway.

National Highways West Midlands have warned of delays of approximately 40 minutes after a van overturned on the M5 between Junction 6 (Worcester) and Junction 5 (Wychbold).

The highways authority has warned that lanes one, two and three (of four) have closed due to the crash, with approximately three miles of congestion being caused on the approach.

The incident was first reported by National Highways West Midlands at 7.12am this morning, with the group warning to 'expect delays'.

On X, the authority said: "Lanes one, two, and three (of four) are closed on the M5 northbound between J6 (Worcester) and J5 (Wychbold) due to an overturned van.

"There are currently three lanes of congestion on approach, causing delays of 40 minutes above usual journey times. Expect delays."

It comes as one lane on the M54 remained closed overnight following a crash between Wolverhampton and Albrighton on Tuesday night that resulted in four people being assessed by ambulance staff. 

West Midlands Ambulance Service have said that one man was treated for 'potnetially serious injuries', before he was conveyed to Worcester Royal Hosptial. 

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to reports of an RTC involving one lorry on the M5 between junction 6 and 7 northbound in Warndon at 6.42am and sent an ambulance, a paramedic officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance Critical Care Car from Strensham to the scene. 

"On arrival crews found a man, the driver, who they treated for potentially serious injuries before conveying him to Worcester Royal Hospital."

Emergency services have been approached for more information.
