Two West Midlands Police officers have visited St Regis School, Moreton School and Heath Park School, in Wolverhampton, to deliver a series of virtual-reality sessions to show the dangers of knife crime.

PC Faulner and PC Hunt delivered the immersive VR presentations to just under 100 students as they taught them the consequences of carrying a knife and how to make safer choices.

Using VR headsets, students were placed into realistic scenarios where they could explore different decisions and see how their choices influence the outcome.

The force said that the proactive approach 'helps to build' on the ongoing work already taking place between their officers and schools in the region, adding that the headsets give students a 'safe space' to think about their actions.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "This style of learning offers something different from the traditional classroom talk.

"Instead of simply learning, students are able to take ownership of their decisions within the scenarios, helping them reflect on advice shared by both school staff and officers."

The force said that the VR sessions were 'extremely well-received', with students engaging with officers throughout and sharing their positive feedback.
