Several roads were closed across the West Midlands due to floods following heavy rainfall

In Walsall, pupils and parents heading to the four schools along Primley Avenue in Alumwell were navigating flooding in the street. Meanwhile there has been flooding on the A461 Lichfield Road near Rushall. 

National Highways and West Midlands Roads also announced that several roads were closed this morning due to heavy rainfall.

The transport agencies warned drivers to take extra care.

On the M5 lanes two (of three) were closed southbound between J3 (Halesowen and J2 (Oldbury). Motorists were warned to expect 30 minute delays.

The M5 J3 northbound entry slip road was also closed.

The flooding has since cleared  and all lanes are now back open again.

There was also flooding at Birchfield Road Underpass in Perry Barr which caused the road to be closed in both directions.

National Express West Midlands warned there was heavy congestion on Aldridge Road, Walsall Road and Birchfield Road.

A spokesperson said: “Services 33, 51, 52, X51, 907, 936, 937, 997, 998 are seeing delays

“Allow more travel time.”

West Midlands Roads warned that the A34 Birchfield Road underpass at Wellington Road in Perry Barr was blocked both ways due to flooding this morning, with Transport for West Midlands warning that the road remains closed as of 2.59pm as 'clean-up' works continue.

The transport administrator warned to 'expect delays' to Birchfield Road and Walsall Road bus services, with delays expected to continue into the afternoon and evening periods. 

Walsall Road and Aldridge Road services 33, 51, 52, X51, 907, 936, 937, 997 and 998 may all be affected.

A456 Hagley Road into Birmingham city centre between Harborne Road and Galton Road in Bearwood is now passable after it was blocked earlier this morning due to flooding.
