Guilty: Seraaj Ayub
Guilty: Seeraj Ayub

Ali was shot in Alderson Road, Washwood Heath, at around 10.15pm. The teenager was taken to hospital with serious injuries, but  died two days later.

An investigation was immediately launched following the shooting, which then became a murder investigation after his death.

Detectives from West Midlands Police reviewed multiple hours of CCTV footage and discovered that Ayub was found to be in a black Mercedes that followed Ali and a friend who were riding an e-bike.

Ali and his friend came to a stop in Alderson Road when the Mercedes pulled up beside them and a gunshot was fired from a rear passenger window.

The duo then rode away and the car followed before there was a second shot, which hit Ali.

A member of the public found him and called the police and ambulance  before giving him CPR. Paramedics attended and he was taken to hospital. But two days later, Ali died from his injuries on October 21.

Later that evening, Ayub fled the country. But he returned to the UK via ferry from Dublin on 28 January this year, where he was arrested on his arrival.

After refusing to comment during interview, he was charged with murder.

Yesterday, after previously pleading not guilty, Ayub of Alexander Road, Birmingham, was found guilty of murder by the jury.

Senior Investigating Officer Jenny Birch, from West Midlands Police's Homicide team, said: "I hope this verdict brings some peace to Ali's family.

"Our team worked tirelessly on this case and I am pleased we have been able to secure justice for Ali and his family”

Ayub will be sentenced later this year.
