Driver removed from vehicle after crash with lamppost in Wednesbury sees buses diverted

A driver was removed from a vehicle that had 'crashed into a lamppost' in the early hours this morning.

The incident, which saw a car crash into a lamppost, reportedly occurred on Leabrook Road, Wednesbury at around 6am (November 5). 

National Express West Midlands have confirmed its 11 and 11A services are "diverting towards Dudley only via: Black Country New Road, Great Western Way, New Road and Toll End Road."

"Apologies for any disruption to your journey," a spokesperson added. 

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called to reports of an RTC on Leabrook Road in Wednesbury just before 6am and sent two ambulances to the scene. 

"On arrival, crews found one car had come off the road and there was one patient – the driver. He was removed from the vehicle with the assistance of fire colleagues before receiving treatment from ambulance staff for injuries not believed to be serious and was conveyed to Walsall Manor Hospital."

OpenReach engineers are said to be at the scene and have also been contacted for comment. 

Bus services have since returned to normal.
