In the early hours of February 17, a black Hyundai drove on Vicarage Street Oldbury before Assan Hussain emptied two barrels of a shotgun at the bedroom windows of a home.

The mother and two sisters who were at home were terrified they would be killed and still have no idea why their house was targeted.

Despite a convoluted escape plan, which involved swapping cars and driving to Wales, Hussain, was arrested in Birmingham. Sima Khan's house was also raided where police found a loaded pistol with ammunition in a handbag.

Khan, of Navigation Road, Birmingham was charged with assisting an offender and possession of a firearm and was consequently charged. Hussain, of Edgbaston Road, Birmingham was charged with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

They both were found guilty following a trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court. Judge Robert Talog-Davies jailed the pair on Friday.

The court heard victim impact statements from the women who were in the house when Hussain opened fire.

The woman, in her 20s, said: "I have no idea why this happened. The window shattered with the first shot. My sister was covered with glass and could have been killed. I do not feel safe in my own home and am always looking at the cameras in case it happens again."

In mitigation, the court heard Hussain was married and suffered from from an illness and Khan had been a child bride and been the victim of abuse for years. She also has two children.

Hussain had previous firearms convictions, in 2018 he was sentenced to eight years for gun crimes. Judge Talog-Davies jailed him for 15 years.

He said: "You still have not extended the courtesy of giving the family whose family's house you shot at a reason why you did it. You have previous convictions and these aggravate your offending.

"You convinced others to assist you in your criminality which has effected their lives."

Khan was sentenced to five years and  six months.

The judge said: "You have had a life which has been full of abuse and I can see you were obviously involved in this case due to misguided loyalty to Hussain."
