Man arrested on suspicion of murder after 76-year-old attacked in Birmingham

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after 76-year-old was attacked near a train station in Birmingham.

Police were called to Birchfield Road, Perry Barr at around 9.50pm on Thursday night (October 23) by paramedics after a man named Alvin Callum was found in serious condition.

Despite the efforts of emergency services, the 76-year-old died following an assault.

A murder investigation was launched following the incident and officers have confirmed they have made an arrest. 

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: "Last night at around 8.40pm, we arrested a man aged 30 in the Perry Barr area on suspicion of murder.

"He remains in custody today. We are supporting Mr Callum's family, and our investigation continues.

"We are still asking for anyone with CCTV, dashcam, or mobile phone footage from the area at the time to get in touch, quoting log 5365 of 23 October."
