Man and woman, 49 and 65, arrested in connection with rape in Halesowen and racially aggravated rape of Sikh woman in Oldbury

Two people have been arrested in connection with a rape that took place in Halesowen on Thursday night.

A man and a woman, aged 49 and 65, from Sandwell, have been arrested as part of an investigation into a rape incident in Halesowen and the racially aggravated rape of a Sikh woman in Oldbury in September. 

West Midlands Police were called to Hurst Green Park, Halesowen, at around 7pm on on Thursday after a woman in her 30s reported that she had been attacked in the area.

The man and woman were arrested on Friday morning on suspicion of rape.

Following further investigation, officers also subsequently arrested the pair in connection with the racially aggravated rape of a Sikh woman in a parkland on Tame Road, Oldbury, on September 9.

The September 9 attack saw widespreak public anxiety among local women and families in the area.

Following the incident, a large manhunt was launched, with two rewards of a combined £30,000 being offered for information leading to the a successful conviction.

The force said that a cordon in Hurst Green Park still remains in place in the park while investigations continue. 

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "We were called at around 7pm after a woman in her 30s reported she had been attacked in Hurst Green Park. 

"This incident is not being treated as racially aggravated.

"A 49-year-old man and a 65-year-old woman from Sandwell were arrested this morning on suspicion of rape. 

"The man and woman have this afternoon subsequently been arrested in connection with a rape on Tame Road, Oldbury, on Tuesday, 9 September."
