Revealed: Number of police officers barred from returning to forces in West Midlands and Staffordshire
New figures show almost fifty police officers were stripped of their posts at the West Midlands and Staffordshire forces in the past year.
West Midlands Police saw 37 officers sacked and barred from returning to the service in the year to March 31 2025, an increase of eight on the previous year. While Staffordshire Police saw 10 dismissed in the same period, an increase of six on the previous year.
The 47 were among 735 to be dismissed nationally and an increase of 24 per cent compared to the previous year, according to the latest figures from the College of Policing.
The college said the most common reasons given for dismissal were dishonesty, discriminatory behaviour, unlawful access or disclosure of information), inappropriate communications, and sexual offences or misconduct.

Other cases involved abuse of position for a sexual purpose, child sexual offences, being in a discriminatory WhatsApp group, domestic abuse or harassment, and drugs.
Among those sacked during the period were former West Midlands Police sergeant Andrew Grant who was dismissed in June last year for making inappropriate and discriminatory comments about a transgender officer. Former Dudley based chief inspector Balraj Sohal was also dismissed in June last year after his drunken behaviour on a plane resulted in him being removed from the flight in 2022.
