Wolverhampton man found guilty of attempted murder after shooting in Dudley

He was cleared of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life,and possessing ammunition with intent to endanger life.

Haughton was on trial in connection with a shooting in Merryfield Road, Dudley when a man was shot at in the early hours of April 6 this year. 

The 34-year-old was remanded in custody until his sentencing which will be in late November. Attempted murder has a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.

During the trial the jury was shown CCTV footage of when the shot was fired in Dudley. 

Haughton was one of the occupants of a Vauxhall Astra, which in the hours before the shooting left from the Merridale, Wolverhampton and drove to Dudley where they visited a number of areas around the Milking Bank Estate including Himley Road and Sovereign Road

After parking on a recreational area, just off Merryfield Road close to Barrow Hill nature reserve, at 1.20am a gun was fired from the Astra. Soon afterwards a man presented himself to Russells Hall Hospital with gunshot wounds.

Eight days later in Great Hampton Street, Wolverhampton, Haughton was arrested police searched a car and found a live firearm.

Judge John Edwards KC told Haughton he could expect a substantial custodial sentence.
