Four arrested and knives recovered after Birmingham city centre robbery

Four people have been arrested and two knives seized after a robbery in Birmingham city centre.

At 8pm last night (Monday)  two people were on the High Street, Birmingham when they were threatened by a group who stole their phones.

The pair managed to escape, and officers were immediately alerted to what had happened.

Working with city centre partners, they were able to track a group running from the scene on CCTV and the suspected offenders were quickly tracked down.

Two men aged 18, and two boys aged 16, were detained minutes later and officers also recovered two large knives, as well as both stolen phones.

The four were arrested on suspicion of robbery and remain in police custody.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "We currently have a dispersal order in place in the city centre, with officers patrolling around the clock to keep the community safe, and we would urge anyone with concerns to speak to us.
