Drugs worth over £1m seized and six arrested after targeted operation in Staffordshire

Six people have been arrested after drugs worth over £1m and two firearms were seized in Staffordshire

Approximately 70kg of ketamine was seized in a major and organised crime operation in Tamworth.

Officers investigating the alleged exportation and importation of drugs, carried out a number of warrants across the town yesterday (Thursday).

A 49-year-old man, a 38-year-old man, a 34-year-old woman, a 36-year-old man, a 31-year-old man and a 20-year-old man, all of Tamworth, were detained.  

The woman, 49-year-old man, 38-year-old man and 34-year-old man, were each arrested on suspicion of importing a class B drug and being concerned in the exportation of a class B drug.

The 38-year-old was also arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm without a certificate.

The 31-year-old was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in offer to supply a class A drug, possession with intent to supply a class A drug, two counts of conspiring to import a class B drug, possession of a class B drug and possession of an offensive weapon in a private place.

The 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in offer to supply a class A drug and being concerned in the supply of a class B drug and has since been placed on conditional police bail. 

The other five individuals remain in police custody at this time while the police's investigation continues. 

Two firearms and £2,500 in cash were also recovered.

Superintendent Victoria Downing, of Staffordshire Police's major and organised crime unit, said: “This was a significant series of warrants carried out by our team yesterday.

“We are determined to prevent the illegal supply of drugs in and out of Staffordshire and these arrests represent an important part of achieving that aim.”
