The RSPCA is appealing for information after a cat was found dead in woodlands in Wolverhampton

The deceased moggy - a large, neutered male with no microchip or collar - had a small yellow plastic bag tied tightly around his head.

The cat had blood and faeces around his rear end, as well as bruising and bald patches around his neck - leading to concerns by the RSPCA that the possible cause of death was asphyxiation.

The tragic discovery was made by a member of the public near Strathfield Walk in Wolverhampton on Saturday, August 2, and the cat’s body was taken to a local veterinary practice.

Animal Rescue Officer Sophie Taylor, who is now investigating for the RSPCA, said: “This is a very disturbing incident, and we are keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed suspicious behaviour in the area, or who recognises this cat.

“Finding an animal in these circumstances is incredibly distressing, and we want to understand what happened here.

“We’d urge anyone who might know something about this to please get in touch - even the smallest bit of first-hand information could help us identify what happened, or who may be responsible.”

The incident has already been shared on social media by those who first discovered the cat, but no further details are known at this time.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the RSPCA appeals line on 0300 123 8018 and refer to incident number 01594482.
