Man, 44, arrested following more than 25 shop thefts in Dudley and Sandwell

Police have arrested a man after more than 25 shop thefts were committed in Sandwell and Dudley.

West Midlands Police have arrested a 44-year-old man from Rowley Regis on suspicion of dozens of shop thefts across Rowley Regis and Halesowen.

Police say more than £1,300 worth of items were stolen. 

The man remains in custody for questioning.

It comes as the force reported that arrests for shop theft offences have risen over 60 per cent in the last two years.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "We’re catching hundreds more suspected shop thieves in the West Midlands as we continue to act against retail crime across the region.

"Arrests for shop theft offences have risen over 60% in the last two years as we’ve improved the way we respond to crime reports.

"Sandwell South has its own dedicated retail crime team that identifies prolific offenders and brings them to justice."
