Watch: Flash floods turn roads into rivers in Staffordshire and the Black Country

Several main roads including in Staffordshire and the Black Country boroughs were affected by flash flooding during intermittent rainfall across the region.

In Cannock, motorists were taking care as flood water rose in Devon Road off Lichfield Road on Thursday.

There were also similar issues in Walsall at the Lichfield Street traffic light junction near the arboretum and in Broadway North. 

On Thursday The Government Flooding Service issued alerts for several areas including River Stour and Smestow Brook in the Black Country and South Staffordshire, Upper Tame at Sandwell Valley in West Bromwich,  the River Sow and River Penk in Stafford after river levels were found to have risen.  

The public is advised that there is uncertainty over the amount of rainfall expected and the exact location of thunderstorms. River and surface water flooding may affect these areas. 

Residents and drivers should remain vigilant and avoid walking and driving through flood water. The service is actively monitoring the situation closely and will issue further flood alerts and warnings if necessary.

An alert for Waterhead Brook at Bushbury, Wolverhampton from Northycote Lane to Stafford Road has since been removed.
