The authority has received £1,250,932 from the UKSPF this year to be spent in the district. Schemes are set to include improvements to village centres and council-owned green spaces, installation of energy saving measures in recently acquired council-owned temporary accommodation and solar panel installation.

The council’s cabinet approved the funding allocation for the changing room refurbishment at Wombourne at its latest meeting on Tuesday (September 2). A report to the cabinet said: “In January 2025, UKSPF was approved to refurbish the fitness suite changing rooms and replace the pool hoist at Wombourne Leisure Centre.

“However, the full project did not proceed during the previous financial year because the procurement process and the work could not be completed in time to utilise the 24/25 allocation. The pool hoist was however replaced before the end of the previous financial year.

“Officers have now completed the tendering process with the lowest bid pricing the work at £35k, subject to finalising the costs on the finishes, which could only be estimated in the tender. As is commonplace on build or refurbishment projects, a contingency amount has also been factored into the request should costs overrun.

“In putting together the plan for this year’s allocation, £46k was indicatively set aside for this project and that full amount has been requested, but with the expectation the full amount may not then be required and could then potentially be reallocated to other projects in plenty of time. The project can commence promptly, subject to approval.”
