Great Barr man arrested in counter-terrorism police operation

A Great Barr man has been arrested on suspicion of terrorism offences.

The 30-year-old man was detained by West Midlands Police counter-terrorism officers today (Wednesday).

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "Detectives from Counter Terrorism Policing West Midlands have today (3 September) arrested a man in connection with terrorism offences in a pre-planned policing operation.

"The 30-year-old was detained from an address in Great Barr on suspicion of expressing support for a proscribed organisation. He is currently in custody for questioning."

As part of the operation another address in Birmingham was raided by the counter-terrorism unit.

The spokesman added: "Officers also carried out searches at another address in Aston as part of the investigation. No further arrests were made and enquires continue."
