Joel Smith, aged 37, of no fixed address, and Morgan Neville, aged 21, also of no fixed address, have both been charged with multiple shop thefts around Willenhall.

The thefts are reported to have taken place between May and July of this year, and saw multiple items taken from a number of shops around the region.

Smith was charged with four shop thefts between the dates of May 21 and July 3, and was remanded into custody to appear before Wolverhampton Magistrates Court today.

Neville was similarly charged with two shop thefts between July 1 and July 3, and was also remanded to appear before Wolverhampton Magistrates Court today.

The charges come as part of the national Safer Streets Summer initiative, where officers crack down on anti-social behaviour, retail and street crime, and carry out patrols and support local businesses across the UK.

Sergeant Paul Smith, from West Midlands Police, said: "As part of Safer Streets Summer our neighbourhood team at Willenhall has made a number of significant arrests targeting people who carry out shop thefts.

"We work closely with shops and local businesses to reduce the impact of retail crime and anti-social behaviour in Willenhall town centre."
