Wolverhampton singer and expectant father is US bound after competition win

Wolverhampton country singer Liam Price has booked his ticket back to Nashville but will be concentrating on other matters today (Tuesday).

The singer won a competition at the Long Road Festival in Leicestershire on Sunday and beat off competition from five other singers to book a place playing at the Country Music Association (CMA) Festival in Nashville in June next year.

He was on tenterhooks at the festival as he was waiting for his wife Anna to give birth - this will now happen today as she is overdue and is being taken into New Cross to have the baby.

Liam from Bilbrook - who tours with a Luke Combs tribute band - said everything was a whirlwind at the moment but he had remained focussed on Sunday with winning the competition, which was judged by BBC producer Mark Hagen and DJ and broadcaster Baylen Leonard.

He said: "I think about 60 per-cent of the crowd were followers of myself or the Luke Combs UK act but this was my own music, there was some tough competition and it was never going to be easy to win it in front of industry legend for judges but I was confident.

"Although I am obviously known for the Luke Combs tribute I believe going forward you have to have your own material and that is what I will need for the CMA festival which is daunting as there are not many British acts that get to play there.

"Everything is falling into place, with the birth of my daughter due, a Canadian tour lined up in September plus plenty of UK dates up to Christmas and then returning Nashville next year- it couldn't be better."

"Anna is overdue and they have said they are going to induce the baby so we know now when she is going to be born and we can toast her in style having won the competition. I can't wait to meet her."
