Black Country MPs have broadly welcomed the flying of English flags which continue to be seen around the area this week.- including in Wombourne, Sedgley and Stourbridge
The Express & Star went to Wombourne, Sedgley and Stourbridge yesterday (Thursday) afternoon and saw broad evidence of the flags being flown from various vantage points and pedestrian crossings painted in red and white.


In Birmingham more than £16,000 was raised from supporters of union and cross of St George flags being flow after a row with the city council who threatened to take them down

In Wombourne yesterday a zebra crossing on Common Lane was painted in red and white and a number of flags were seen flying around the area.

Mike Wood, MP for Kingswinford and South Staffordshire said:"It's fantastic to see so many people flying the union flag and the George cross so proudly across the area- and even some of the crossings on the Giggety estate adapted in celebration of our patron saint.

"People are sick of being told there is somehow something wrong with being proud of vour country when we can see the contribution Britain continues to make in so many ways.



"So whether it's waving a flag or cheering on the Red Roses as they begin their campaign in the Women's Rugby World Cup I hope everyone has a fantastic Bank Holiday weekend remembering all we have to be proud about our country."

In Sedgley. there were a number of George crosses being flown including in the town centre at The Bull Ring and by The Parish Church of All Saints, as well as the old police station.

Dudley MP Sonia Kumar said: "I fully support seeing British and Black Country flags proudly displayed in our communities.

"Both represent unity, history and local pride. "Putting them up shows who we are and what we share.

"As a Black Country MP I'm especially proud to see our own flag flying alongside the Union Jack - it brings us all together."
In Stourbridge, flags were seen flying in Wollaston High Street and the Norton area amongst others.
Earlier former Stourbridge MP Suzanne Webb posted on Facebook about flags being seen in the Shenstone Avenue and Broadway areas of Norton.
She said: "It was great to see these flags flying loud and proud yesterday and I hope every day!
"I would love to see more Union Jack and St George's Cross flags flying proudly across the constituency.
"We should never shy away from proudly displaying our history and heritage.
"In Birmingham, shamefully, the Labour council has started taking down Union Jack and St George's Cross flags from lampposts "citing safety concerns" - Ridiculous.
"Just as bad as this government, which, if it could, would take away our heritage and identity and erode all things British.
"Shame on them.cLet's see more Union Jack and St George's Cross flags flying loud and proud!"
