Watch: Fire and smoke rip through Sainsbury's car park as building evacuated following Wolverhampton three-vehicle fire

Video footage has shown the damage left by a vehicle fire that destroyed three cars in a Sainsbury's carpark in Wolverhampton.

Smoke could be seen pouring from the roof of the Sainsbury's car park on Raglan Street at Chapel Ash, Wolverhampton, following a vehicle fire at around 10.35pm on Wednesday.

Video footage of the blaze, which is said to have included three cars, shows flames rising to the ceiling of the building, with shoppers cautiously standing watch nearby.

On the outside, a fire alarm could be heard to be blaring from the building, with smoke being seen pouring from the roof of the supermarket carpark.

West Midlands Fire Service said that the fire involved three cars, and that the building was evacuated as a precaution.

A fire service spokesperson said: "Just after 10.35am on Wednesday 20 August, we responded to reports of a fire in a supermarket car park on Raglan Street, Wolverhampton.

"A fire engine and a brigade response vehicle attended, crewed by firefighters from Tettenhall and Wolverhampton fire stations. The fire involved three cars. 

"The owners of all the vehicles were made aware of the incident. One firefighter wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire using a hose reel jet. 

"No one was hurt. The supermarket was evacuated as a precaution, and business resumed once it was deemed safe."

A Sainsbury's spokesperson said: "On Wednesday, our Wolverhampton St Marks store was briefly closed as a precaution while fire services attended to an incident in the car park."
