Grainger, who was holding a glass, smashed it into the victim’s neck, causing a deep laceration. He walked off after it happened, leaving the victim with significant injuries in the street.

The victim managed to walk to a family member’s house and they called 999 after seeing his injuries before he went into cardiac arrest and was rushed to hospital.

He has now suffered life-changing injuries including his left arm being paralysed and  is still undergoing medical treatment at various hospitals.

Staffordshire Police detectives linked Grainger to the case after trawling CCTV and arrested him on May 3. He had an injury to the hand that he was holding the glass in.

Chief Inspector Al Lyford, from the Cannock local policing team, said: “Officers worked diligently to investigate this violent attack and to apprehend Grainger as swiftly as possible.

“Violence of any kind has no place on our streets and we’re determined to take robust action against those responsible for harm in local communities.”
