Expectant Wolverhampton singer Liam hopes to be in tune on all fronts by the weekend

Wolverhampton country singer Liam Price will be hoping the goods are delivered on two fronts this week.

He will be taking on five other singers at the Long Road Festival in Leicestershire on Sunday (August 24) to try and win a trip to next year's CMA Festival in Nashville, country music's biggest event.

But before then his wife Anna Price - a former Wolves Women's football captain - is expected to deliver on another front - she was in New Cross Hospital this week expecting to give birth imminently.

What's more the singer, who tours with his Luke Combs UK tribute band nationwide and in North America, is releasing his first solo EP The Grass Ain't Green tomorrow (August 21).

And the small matter of a 15-date Canadian tour with the band in September and October is on the horizon as well.

Liam admits his mind is a whirlwind at the moment but the Bilbrook-based musician is fully focussed on winning the competition on Sunday when he will play original songs.

He said: "I am hoping Anna will give birth before the weekend but she is being looked after fantastically in New Cross at the moment and we can't wait for our little girl to arrive.

"She has retired from playing football and it's probably not ideal timing the birth with everything that is happening, but that comes first and foremost and she is safe and well

"As far as the music is concerned, the competition is a massive deal at probably the biggest Americana and country music festival in the UK which attracts thousands.

"I am up against five established other acts and I am in it to win it - you have to be.

"As much as the Luke Combs act brings in the income and pays the bills you have to eventually have your own material and some of that from the EP will feature."

If Liam does get to play at the CMAs it won't be the first time he has played Nashville - he played his hero Luke Combs' entertainment venue Category 10 in April as part of a US and Canadian tour.

He said: "That was fantastic, like a dream come true - but the CMAs are like the Grammys for country music and to play there would be the ultimate.

"The new songs are great, I think, but I have to get them out there to as wide an audience as possible as it is hard to sell records these days so live exposure will help."

Before the weekend, Liam said he hopes to welcome his and Anna's new arrival at New Cross with a song or two, if allowed.
