Birmingham man found in possession of 'energy device' is jailed

A Birmingham man who was found in possession of a conducted 'energy device' in Stourport has been sentenced to six months in prison.

Tom Ryan, aged 23 and of Bromford Road, Birmingham, pleaded guilty at Kidderminster Magistrates Court on Monday (August 18).

Ryan was arrested over the night of Friday, August 15 and the morning of Saturday, August 16  where he was found to be in possession of a conducted energy device.

He was charged on Sunday and appeared in court on Monday where he was sentenced to six months in prison, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £154 and deprived of his rights to the weapon.

Detective Inspector Colin Berry of North Worcestershire CID said: “We are pleased to get this swift result and an immediate custodial sentence for Ryan.

“West Mercia Police will not tolerate weapons on our streets and will always take action to bring those who are in possession of them to justice which was the case here.

“We would also like to reassure residents this was an isolated incident and did not pose any wider risk to the public.”
