Cannock Chase Theatre Trust put forward proposals for the future operation of the theatre, which closed in April, and will meet tonight (Monday) to discuss the way forward after a report by a consultancy recommended not progressing the bid further.

The report, by independent body Sport, Leisure and Culture Consultancy (SLC) on behalf of Cannock Chase Council said the trust did not provide the robust evidence, business case and confidence for the council to invest further in the Prince of Wales Theatre and progress to the next stage.

However members of the trust say they have not even had chance to start operating the theatre but are confident and determined they will be successful.

Chairman of the group Peter Sidgwick said: "We have had our own independent report done which suggests we have a good business plan, money pledged from a donor to help us, support from the community and MP and the expertise and backing to run the theatre as a going concern.
