The five year old dog, named after England captain Harry Kane, tracked down the vulnerable person and helped police officers and paramadics to the location.

West Midlands Police Dog Unit posted on social media about their star pooch's heroics.

They said: "Not just the bad guys.

"PD Kane called yesterday to the report of a vulnerable missing person in a wooded area. He tracks from the last point they were seen and locates them hiding in the woods, and is able to guide officers and ambulance in to provide them with help."

The unit explained the dogs are given preferential treatment to other bobbies when the mercury starts rising.

They said: "We don't work them when its too hot. The cars are the coolest place to be with the air conditioning (for the handlers in their stab vests too!) and if its too hot outside the dog simply may not be an option available until the weather cools."

PD Kane, a Belgian Malinois, had to complete one year of intense training before being handed his licence and the green light to start working for West Midlands Police.

And on his very first working day, superstar Kane delivered the goods and made his first arrest after he tracked down a man.

His handler PC Andy Rudnicki, said: “I took him home to live with my family when he was just eight weeks old. He has such a lovely nature but he can also switch into work mode in an instant.

“He has his favourite ball and he will do anything to have that ball, and that means he is prepared to work very hard. His breed is well known for speed and agility, which is essential for a general purpose dog like Kane where they are often deployed in a chase.

“I have been delighted with him so far. He was named after Harry Kane and just like Harry he is a hard worker and does all he can for the cause.”
