The emergency services were called to an incident on the line off of Queen Street in Pensnett just before 5pm on August 10 evening to deal with a large fire in the open.

West Midlands Fire Service say the fire affected trees, fences and sheds of properties along the old line, and encouraged people to avoid the area where possible.

In an X post at 5.15pm on Sunday, WMFS said: "We have four crews in attendance at the old railway line off Queen Street in Pensnett where they have responded to a large fire in the open affecting trees, fences and sheds of properties along the old line. Please avoid the area, where possible."

A spokesperson for West Midlands Fire Service said: "We were alerted at 4.49pm on Sunday (10 August) to a fire in Chapel Street, Pensnett.

"The incident involved a severe fire affecting conifers, grass, sheds and fencing in the rear gardens of four properties.

"Our first crew arrived three minutes after being mobilised. At the height of the incident, six crews - around 30 firefighters - were in attendance.

"They used main jets and hose reels to bring the fire under control. Local road closures were managed by the police.

"Firefighters revisited the scene later in the evening to check for and extinguish any remaining hotspots."
