The launch also marks the week two years ago when  a devastating fire demolished The Crooked House,.

As part of a campaign he has taken to parlimanent, Mr Wood hopes to raise awareness of efforts to rebuild the famous pub and to shine a light on the importance of preserving other heritage pubs across the region.

Nominations for the Pub of the Year are now open on his website, and anyone can take part — including customers, pub staff, and owners themselves.

Entries will be judged not just on the number of nominations received, but also on the reasons given for why the pub deserves to win. From exceptional service and locally brewed ales to great food, fantastic staff or a warm, welcoming atmosphere, all aspects will be considered.

The closing date for nominations is Monday September 15 and the winner will be announced in early October.

To submit a nomination, residents should complete the short nomination form, available on his website, or by following the link here: https://www.mike4kss.com/pub-year-competition
