Former tower crane operator Paul and psychic medium Viki started the venture as Viki was recovering from a stroke.

Within just 12 months it has grown from their kitchen table to a 1,200 sq ft workshop and now they’re opening their very first direct-to-public store, located at Unit 3, Russell Street, near the old Toll House, on Sunday August 3.

Mum-of-three Viki, aged 45, said the brand is rooted in the Black Country and it “reflects the spirit of resilience and creativity that defines this region” and she added: “We’re proud to say our products are now available in Fairlawns Hotel & Spa.”

The couple started off making scented candles and wax melts and their product range has developed to include room sprays, carpet fresheners and reed diffusers.

Paul said: “Our products have got a luxury feel but we’re not charging high end prices.”

The Black Country and Viki’s interest in the spiritual world are reflected in the brand which has an Anchor range, a nod to Netherton where the anchor for the Titanic was made, and an I Am range for those interested in mind, body, spirit matters.

There’s also a Potting Shed range that pays homage to Viki’s late grandfather who was a keen gardener, with products that smell of tomatoes on the vine.

Other locally inspired products include The Garrison candles - which combine a blend of whiskey and lemon - inspired by The Garrison pub that was frequented by the Peaky Blinders. There’s also The Saddler, named in honour of Walsall FC, which boasts a rich, aged leather scent.

Paul, aged 41, said it’s not been easy trying to build a brand but the couple are pleased with their progress to date and feedback from customers and were “excited” to officially open their brand new shop on Sunday August 3.

They also launched two more exclusive ranges on opening day including a new summer Botanical range - named in honour of Birmingham’s Botanical Gardens.

The Dark Foundry No.8 product range does not include perfume and body products but the couple may expand their business offering to include personal fragrance items in future.
