Man arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving after jumping in Wednesbury canal to evade police

The man ran away from the vehicle before swimming across a canal in an attempt to escape police.

Wednesbury Police have arrested a man on suspicion of dangerous driving after assisting West Midlands Traffic Police in a chase earlier this week.

Officers from the Wednesbury team searched the area for a male who had reportedly decamped from a cloned vehicle following a pursuit.

However, officers were shocked when the man jumped into a nearby canal, and following a short dip, he was arrested after police discovered him hiding in a row of bushes. 

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "Wednesbury Police assisted Traffic West Midlands Police with an area search for a male who had decamped from a cloned vehicle after a pursuit!

"After a short swim in the canal, he was found hiding in the bushes."

The vehicle was later seized for having no insurance, and the driver was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.
