West Midlands Police's local Wolverhampton officers have arrested a man who was wanted in connection with a series of shop thefts in Wolverhampton city centre on Monday night.

City centre officers spotted the man they wanted to speak to on Darlington Street at around 8.50pm.

The 44-year-old was taken into police custody for questioning in connection with four thefts from Sainsbury's on Victoria Square this month, with the items taken valued at £270.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "The arrest forms part of our work to tackle retail crime and antisocial behaviour in our city centres as part of the national Safer Streets Summer initiative.

"Wolverhampton is one of dozens of centres and high streets across the country that will see increased police activity this summer."

Anyone with information that will help reduce local crime in the region is asked to contact West Midlands Police via their 101 number.
