Two taken to hospital after car crash in Amblecote forces police to close the A461 road in both directions

Two people have been taken to hospital following a car accident in Amblecote with police forced to close the road.

Police, fire and ambulance services were all called to an incident at the A461 Wollaston Road near the Amblecote crossroads shortly before 1:30pm on Friday afternoon.

The A491 High Street is partially blocked both ways due to the collision between two cars near Ruby Cantonese Restaurant, and bus services number 6 and 16 have been diverted.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Fire Service said: "Shortly after 1.25pm on Friday (July 18), we responded to Wollaston Road, Amblecote.

"A fire engine and a 4x4 brigade response vehicle from Brierley Hill station attended, the first arriving within five minutes of being mobilised.

"This was a collision between two cars on the road. A man had freed himself from one vehicle before we arrived. A woman from the second car also managed to get out, while firefighters used small tools to free a man from the same vehicle. He is believed to have been conveyed to Russell Halls Hospital by paramedics.

"The junction of High Street and Wollaston Road was partially closed by police officers whilst we worked at the scene.

"Firefighters made the vehicles safe and left the scene at 2.37pm."

West Midlands Ambulance Service commented: “We were called at 1.24pm to a road traffic collision involving two cars on High Street, Amblecote in Stourbridge. 

"One ambulance and a Community First Responder (CFR) attended the scene. Upon arrival we found a man and a woman from the first car. Both were assessed and had sustained injuries which were not believed to be life threatening. 

"The man received treatment from ambulance staff at the scene. Both were conveyed to Russells Hall Hospital for further assessment.” 

The road is now closed, with queueing traffic stretching from Coalbourn Lane to Piper Place. Collis Street has also been closed following the incident.
