Cyclist taken to hospital after early morning accident in Wednesbury

A cyclist was taken to hospital with potentially serious injuries after an early morning accident near Wednesbury.

He was hit by a car at the roundabout which intersects  the junction of Hydes Road, Millfields Road and Rydding Lane in Hateley Heath at around 7.20am this morning (Friday).

It caused the roads to be partially blocked with severe traffic congestion and diversions on National Express buses. 

A West Midlands Ambulance spokesperson said: “We were called at 7.21am to a road traffic collision involving a bicycle and a car at the junction of Millfields Road and Hydes Road in Hateley Heath

"One ambulance attended the scene. Upon arrival we found a man who was the cyclist. 

"He was assessed and had sustained potentially serious injuries and received treatment from ambulance staff at the scene before being conveyed to Walsall Manor Hospital under emergency blue light conditions for further treatment.”
