Birmingham man faces lengthy prison sentence for child sex offences
A man is set to face a long time behind bars after pleading guilty to 13 sexual offences against a child, including two counts of rape.
Saptarshi Mitra pleaded guilty to all charges against him when he appeared at Birmingham Crown Court on July 7.
The 42-year-old, of Ashfield Avenue in Kings Norton, was due to face trial for 13 sexual offence charges, with the most serious being two counts of rape, but will now appear back at Birmingham Crown Court in September for sentencing after changing his plea.
West Midlands Police said that Mitra had been abusing his victim for several years until she bravely came forwarded and reported the abuse.
Officers from the force subsequently arrested Mitra and seized his mobile phone, which contained indecent images of her.

Detective Sergeant Claire Hankinson, from the West Midlands Police Complex Child Abuse Investigation Team, said: “Mitra took advantage of his young victim but she had the courage to report the abuse.
"Mitra now faces a lengthy jail sentence when he next appears in court.
“We hope her bravery encourages other young people subjected to sexual abuse to come forward.”
A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "The Complex Child Abuse department are specially trained to deal sensitively with sexual abuse survivors, offer them support and guide them through the court process.
"It is important to note that survivors of sexual assault are protected by law and have life-long anonymity."
