Following concerns about a brothel being operated, Birmingham Serious Organised Crime and Exploitation (SOCEX) officers from West Midlands Police carried out a warrant on Thursday at a property on Hurst Street in the city centre.

Yulan Cao, 34, and Wendi Lin, 29, were both arrested and have subsequently been charged with keeping a brothel.

The pair, from Birmingham, are due at Birmingham Magistrates Court on Friday. No details are, as yet, available about their appearances.

Sergeant Antony Draper, from SOCEX, said: “The SOCEX team regularly conduct visits, investigations and enforcement action, and are keenly aware of the exploitative practices often involved in this criminality, as well as links to Organised Immigration Crime, and people trafficking.

“We work closely with charity partners and support agencies to ensure victims are able to access the support they need.

“We will always seek to identify people profiting from criminally exploiting others as a commodity, and seek to bring them to justice.”
