Suspect arrested after Birmingham assault left man in 'critical condition'
A man has been arrested after another was left in a critical condition following a serious assault in Birmingham.
The 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder just before 10pm yesterday (Monday) and remains in custody this morning.
The victim, aged 53, was seriously assaulted on Springfield Road at around 5pm on Monday - he was taken to hospital and remains in a critical condition today.
Officers have been carrying out CCTV, house to house and other enquiries, and the road has now been re-opened.

Detective Sergeant Shereen Ballentine, of Birmingham Police said: “This was an appalling assault at what was a very busy time, with people walking and driving through the area.
“I’d appeal for anyone with CCTV, dashcam or mobile phone footage to get in touch with us as soon as possible.”
Reassurance patrols will be carried out in the coming days.
