Walsall fly-tippers fined £800 after dumping a fish tank and waste on public streets
Two fly-tippers have been fined a total of £800 after being captured on film dumping rubbish in two Walsall communities.
Walsall Council’s Community Protection officers issued fixed penalties to the culprits involved in two separate incidents involving illegally disposing waste.
Both cases were brought by the council under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 and the perpetrators were invited to attend interviews at Walsall Council House, in Lichfield Street, on June 25 as a result.

On April 23 an individual was recorded on CCTV improperly disposing of a large glass fish tank on Stephenson Avenue, in Beechdale. The footage showed the perpetrator committing the illegal act of fly-tipping and when presented with the evidence, the person, who has not been named, acknowledged the violation and was subsequently issued a fixed penalty notice with a fine of £400.

On May 17 in a separate incident another individual was identified via footage leaving half a bag of household waste in Spout Lane, in Caldmore. This person also admitted to the act of littering and was also issued a fixed penalty notice with a fine of £400.

Walsall's portfolio holder for enforcement and safe communities Councillor Adam Hicken said: “We are committed to keeping our community clean and safe, and tougher enforcement is a crucial part of that effort. These incidents show the importance of our community protection officers and CCTV systems in maintaining clean neighbourhoods and holding offenders accountable.
“These individuals have paid the price for dumping rubbish in our neighbourhoods, and I hope these fines deter others from similar actions.
“This is another sterling effort from our enforcement team, and I would like to thank them for their superb work.”
Fly-tipping is a serious criminal offence which carries a fine of up to £20,000 an offenders can even be sent to prison.
Walsall has two recycling tips and in addition residents who are struggling to manage their household waste due having a growing family or an ongoing medical condition are advised to apply for a larger bin.
