An 80-year-old pedestrian has sadly died following a road collision in Birmingham involving a taxi.

The collision took place at around 5.25pm on Wednesday (July 2) on St James Road in Handsworth.

West Midlands Police said that the man was sitting on a wall at the church when he was struck by a taxi which was in the process of doing a U-turn.

He suffered serious injuries to his leg and was rushed to hospital where his condition deteriorated. He sadly died yesterday (Friday, July 4).

A spokesperson for WMP said: “We are supporting the man’s family during this extremely difficult time. The driver of the vehicle is currently helping us with our enquiries.”

Sergeant Richard Evans, from WMP Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “We would appeal for witnesses or anyone who may have any dashcam footage of the incident to come forward.

“We would particularly like to trace the owner of a second vehicle which pulled into St James Road and may have seen the taxi which was a grey, silver VW Touran, conducting a U-turn in front of them.”
