Parents of children at the Arena Academy (formerly the Perry Beeches Academy), Beeches Junior School, Beeches Infant School and Perry Beeches Nursery School were contacted by staff this morning.

West Midlands Police said a bomb threat was received by one of the schools via email and officers had attended, but that there is not believed to be a "credible threat".

A spokesperson for the force said: "We were called after a bomb threat was received by the school via an email.

"Officers have attended and at this stage we don’t believe there is any credible threat."

A parent who did not want to be identified told the Express & Star: "It's been a nightmare. One of the schools had a bomb threat email and all of them had to be evacuated.

"There's lots of traffic about with everything going on in Birmingham over this weekend so getting from one side of the city to the other to get my kids was awful, but they're home safe now and I can't praise the staff enough for how well they handled the situation. It could turn out to be a complete hoax but it's not worth the risk."
