Police thank public for help catching suspect after woman in her 60s was pushed to floor in robbery
Police have thanked the public for their help apprehending a suspect following a robbery in Birmingham.
West Midlands Police officers were flagged down by members of the public in Soho Road, Birmingham, at around 9pm on Thursday (July 3), following reports that a woman in her 60s had been pushed to the ground and had her handbag stolen.
On arrival at the scene, a man was seen running away from the incident with the woman's handbag.
The man was quickly identified by members of the public, and with their help, officers were able to detain the man.
A 19-year-old was arrested on suspicion of robbery and remains in custody for questioning.
The 60-year-old woman was later taken to hospital for assessment of her injuries, which are not believed to be serious.
Inspector Claire Jones from Birmingham Police said: "I would like to pass on my thanks to the members of the public who flagged down officers and helped us to locate a suspect."
