Man appears in court charged with murder of Birmingham carer
A man charged with the murder of Irene Mbugua in Birmingham has appeared in court.
Irene was found dead at a house in Markby Road, Winson Green in Birmingham last Monday (23 June), and David Walsh was arrested a short time after her body was discovered.
A post-mortem later revealed that Irene, who had been working as a carer for Walsh, died as a result of serious head and face injuries.
Walsh, aged 34, was initially treated in hospital and later charged with murder and assaulting a number of police officers.

Appearing at Birmingham Magistrates yesterday (Monday), he was remanded in custody to appear at Birmingham Crown Court later this week.
Detective Inspector Michelle Cordell, leading the investigation at West Midlands Police, said: “Our thoughts remain with Irene’s family and loved ones at this extremely difficult time.
“They are being supported by our specialist officers and we continue to keep them up to date with the latest developments.”
In a statement following her death, Irene’s family paid tribute to her, saying: "It’s so sad that you got snatched from us in such a cruel manner. We are so lost without you and we pray for Grace to face each day mum, your beautiful smile and hearty laughter will be missed.
"Please just remind us on how to join the dots because we don’t have a map yet. Rest easy you remain in our hearts forever."
