Crews expected to remain at site of blaze near M6 in Birmingham this morning

Crews are still at the scene of a blaze near the M6 in Birmingham which saw 60 firefighters fighting it at its peak

West Midlands Fire Service received numerous calls reporting the incident in Erdington, near the M6 in Birmingham, just before 5pm yesterday evening (Monday July 30)

The premises, on Tyburn Road, belongs to an office furniture company.

As of 6:30pm, around 12 fire engines and 60 firefighters were involved in the operation to bring the fire under control.

Motorists were advised to find alternative routes where possible while local residents are asked to keep doors and windows shut as a precaution.

This morning, WMFS said  one crew would remain at the scene for a watching brief and to speak to business owners and residents. 

A spokesman said they were likely to remain there for most of the morning. Road closures including Tyburn Road to Salford Circus in both directions remain in place but are likely to be lifted soon.
