Major overnight fire in Birmingham confirmed as accidental

Fire chiefs have confirmed a major blaze at a multi-storey car park near Birmingham City Centre was started accidentally.

They were called to the six storey building in Tenant Street, Birmingham at around 9.06pm last night (Saturday)

The fire was located on the open rooftop level of the car park and involved a smoking shelter. 

Around 30 firefighters and five engines attended the scene, along with a hydraulic aerial platform.

Several nearby roads, including Tennant Street and Bishop Gate Street, were closed to allow crews to work safely.

Crews returned to the sit this morning to prevent the fire from starting again or spreading and were tallking to business owners in the immediate area who may have been affected,

A short while ago, West Midlands Fire tweeted that the cause of the fire was accidental.
