Fire crews work to tackle blaze at house fire on Sutton Coldfield road
Fire crews from five stations were called into action to tackle a blaze which broke out on the first floor of a house in Sutton Coldfield.
West Midlands Fire Service were called to the fire on Coppice View Road at around 8.10pm with five fire engines from Perry Barr, Erdington, Sutton Coldfield, Aston and Aldridge attending the scene.
The crews discovered the fire on the first floor of a semi-detached house, with a minor spread in the loft space, while three people had evacuated the house.
A man was treated for potentially serious injuries and a woman for the effects of smoke inhalation, with both being taken to hospital, while firefighters used breathing apparatus and three jets to extinguish the fire, with the fire confirmed as out and the crews leaving the scene at 11.50pm.
A spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service said: "Shortly after 8.10pm on Thursday 26 June, we responded to Coppice View Road in Sutton Coldfield.
"Five fire engines and a 4x4 brigade response vehicle responded, crewed by firefighters from Perry Barr, Erdington, Sutton Coldfield, Aston and Aldridge.
"The first crew reached the scene within five minutes of being mobilised.
"This was a fire on the first floor of a semi-detached house. There was minor fire spread to the loft space.
"The adjoining property was affected by a small amount of smoke logging, but there was no fire damage.
"Three people freed themselves before we arrived at the scene and were treated for minor injuries by paramedics.
"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used three jets to extinguish the fire. Gas and electric to the property were isolated.
"Coppice View Road was closed whilst we worked at the scene, but reopened a short time later. Police colleagues assisted with traffic management.
"A thorough check of both properties was undertaken once the fire was out, with thermal imaging cameras confirming no hotspots remained.
"We left this incident at 11.50pm."
A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called to reports of a property fire on Coppice View Road at 8.23pm last night, two ambulances attended the scene.
"On arrival we discovered two patients.
"A man was treated for potentially serious injuries before being taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, whilst a woman was treated for the effects of smoke inhalation and taken to Good Hope Hospital."
