Emergency services rushed to the scene of the M6, between Junction 7 (Great Barr) and Junction 8 (M5) following reports of a police incident on the route at around 11.50pm on Wednesday (June 25).

A West Midlands Ambulance Service ambulance and a paramedic officer were sent to the scene, where on arrival, they discovered the body of a man on the carriageway.

The ambulance service said that it became apparent that nothing could be done to save the man, and he was confirmed dead at the scene.

An ambulance service spokesperson said: "We were called by police to an incident near Junction 7 of the M6 Northbound, Great Barr at around 11.50pm. An ambulance and paramedic officer were sent to the scene where, on arrival, crews found a man.

"Sadly, it quickly became clear he could not be saved and was confirmed dead at the scene."

The road was closed overnight for police investigation works following the incident, with both the northbound and southbound stretch of the route closing for a number of hours.

West Midlands Police have since confirmed that the death is 'not being treated as suspicious', also saying that a file is being prepared for the coroner.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "We were called to the M6 northbound, between Junction 7 and Junction 8, just after midnight.

"Sadly, the body of a man was found in the carriageway, and nothing could be done to save him.

"His death is not being treated as suspicious and we are preparing a file for the coroner. The road reopened at 6am."

The road was reopened at around 6.08am on Thursday morning with no residual deals being reported.

On X, National Highways West Midlands said: "This incident is now clear, and the M6 northbound is now open between J6 (Gravelly Hill/Aston) and J8 (M5).
