Two lanes of M6 near Stafford to remain closed for emergency resurfacing works after lorry fire
Two of four lanes on the M6 will remain closed for resurfacing works following a lorry fire near Stafford.
Traffic was held by Staffordshire Police following a lorry fire on the northbound M6 between Junction 12 for Gailey and Junction 13 for Stafford on Wednesday afternoon (June 25).
Emergency services responded to the scene at around 1.20pm following reports of smoke coming from a lorry, with police quickly closing all four lanes of the M6 to traffic.
Five Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service engines were dispatched to the scene and fire crews used hose reel jets to extinguish the fire. No injuries were reported by the fire service, with the blaze later deemed 'accidental'.
Two lanes were reopened at around 2.59pm and traffic was released. The southbound stretch of the affected route was also fully reopened having been closed due to 'smoke drifting' from the fire.

Now, National Highways West Midlands has warned to 'expect delays' on the route, alerting that two lanes of the route will remain closed while resurfacing works take place.
A spokesperson said on X: "Two of four lanes remain closed on the M6 northbound in Staffordshire between Junction 12 and Junction 13 following a vehicle fire.
"The closure will remain in place for emergency resurfacing. Thank you for your patience."
Images from the scene show the lorry well alight, with smoke seen rising above nearby trees.
A Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 1.20pm today to the M6 northbound between Junctions 12 and 13 following reports of smoke coming from a lorry.
"Nobody was reported injured. The fire was later deemed to have been caused accidentally and crews left the scene at 3.20pm."
National Highways West Midlands has been approached for more information on the road closure.
